The job

As a minutes secretary at Emma Handson, you offer support on the highest level at international meetings. Our minutes secretaries have extensive expertise. For many years, we have been working for pension funds, supervisory boards and participation councils. Our minutes secretaries take care of perfect minutes of these meetings.

Your day

Today a board meeting is in your agenda. The coordinator has sent you the meeting documents and you have prepared yourself well. You travel to Amsterdam today and have checked beforehand how much time you need for the trip. You want to arrive on time, because you know arriving too late is not an option. Besides, this will give you the opportunity to set up your laptop and recording device.

All participants are present and the chairman opens the meeting. You know the attendees, because you attend this client’s meetings regularly. You listen attentively and take notes on your laptop. After the meeting, lunch is waiting for those present, including you. This offers you the opportunity to ask questions and network. After lunch you head home to start working out the minutes.

When home, you check your mailbox first. There is an e‑mail from a colleague: she has checked your previous minutes and has given you some tips. You take some time to process the remarks, which results in a perfect report that the coordinator can send to the client. The feedback is very educational and it is a good feeling to be responsible together. After this you make a strict schedule, because the day after tomorrow, working out a recorded meeting is in your agenda. Deadlines have to be met, after all. After this, you start work on the minutes of the meeting of that morning. You encounter a subject with which you are less familiar. You research this subject, to gain a better understanding of it. You are not quite clear on one of the subjects, so you play back the recording, to make sure the minutes are complete

You look at the clock: it is 4 p.m. and you decide it is time to pick up some groceries. You feel like cooking an elaborate meal. Your work hours are flexible, so you know you can make time for this. You plan to start the next morning with a work‑out, so you can continue with your minutes feeling energetic.
